WELCOME TO WICKED THISTLE FARM!

Fresh Farm Food & Family Fun

We are a small, family run hobby farm that grows a little each year. We started with a horse, pony and six chickens. Today, we have a coop full of poultry of varying ages and our equine friends. As much as we can, we grow and raise our own food and learn more about it with each step we take. Follow us on this adventure!

FARM FRESH EGGS

We’re proud to offer our customers truly farm fresh, free-range eggs. Our girls work hard around the farm hunting for bugs and other delicious snacks. They love helping with yardwork; mowing the lawn and fertilizing the grass as they go. Our chickens love treats for their hard work. And all that hard work does pay off! You can't find a tastier, more nutritious egg in any store. You'll find, free-range eggs just taste better than store bought. And you won't want to go back. They have nice, dark yellow yolks and beautiful shells you don't even have to dye for Easter.

CHICKS

We like to incubate our own hatching eggs and plan to have extra chicks for sale. These are strictly barnyard mix babies. We have produced beautiful, hardy egg-layers here on the farm. Our flock currently consists of: Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, Black Australorp, Buff Orpingtons, Black and Blue Olive Eggers, a Black Orpington, Easter eggers, and a bunch of our own barnyard mixes. We have gotten beautifully colored eggs from the girls! For our barnyard mix chickens, we cannot guarantee specific-colored eggs due to the surprise of their combinations.

VEGGIE STAND

We work hard to produce nutritious food for our family and a balanced diet is important in so many ways. Gardening is in our blood, and we enjoy it. We have a small greenhouse going up this year and can't wait to see those veggies grow! This year we will be able to sell some of our farm grown produce. We'll update as the growing season gets underway.

THIS LITTLE PIGGY

In an effort to get closer to our food and to appreciate the nourishment we get from it, we raise our own feeder pigs. We have chosen a heritage cross breed that has been developed by a local farmer in town. It's really important to us to do this specific project locally, so everything will be done close to home. We will be feeding them locally produced grain and hog appropriate table and garden scraps. This too we will update if any extra becomes available for sale after processing.

HORSES

It all started when I was in elementary school. I checked out every horse book my school had- multiple times. I got my first horse, Cheyenne a beautiful buckskin mare, when I was in middle school. That said, I have owned horses ever since, for more than 20 years now! Currently, I get to love Harlan, my 25 year old American Quarter Horse. He lives a cushy life, mostly retired except for an occasional ride around the farm. We have a four stall barn with hay loft, and tack and grain room. Each 12x12 oak stall has a private wood-fenced paddock and double Dutch doors. Since our horses like the freedom to come in and go as they please, we prefer to use sand in their stalls. It allows for great drainage and easy maintenance. The horses seem to like it too!

CORNISH-X

We have raised our own Cornish-X for a couple years now. There's no better feeling than knowing you raised something to feed your family. Our birds free-range daily and adapt quickly to the daily routine of our layer flock. In the past, they have all lived together as a single flock and got along perfectly. These days, we do primarily raise them separately, since our volume of birds has changed. The birds we raise are large and extremely healthy. Some dress to more than 8 pounds! Factory farmed poultry doesn't free-range; they have little space to move around. Ours grazed and I witnessed them at the feeders only slightly more than our layers. Raising chickens for our family has been very rewarding.
